SHAHEEN J RAHMAN
As an artist, Shaheen finds purpose in the Islamic art of Ebru (Turkish paper marbling), an ancient Silk road practice that connects her to spirituality and her South Asian heritage. Infusing her faith and cultural tradition in her art, she celebrates the rich heritage of Ebru and its significance in Islamic arts and culture. Through live Ebru demonstrations, Shaheen engages diverse communities, sharing the beauty and wisdom of this artform. Her aim is to offer a positive narrative of her Muslim traditions, fostering understanding and breaking down stereotypes. As the President of Islamic Arts Society, she advocates for cultural appreciation and inclusivity. Additionally, as a Mayoral appointee on the Board of Directors of Houston Arts Alliance, and as a member of the Advisory Council of Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, she contributes to enriching Houston's art and cultural programs, promoting unity, and understanding through art.
